SOUTHEAST ASIA ULTRA RUN

In August 2019, I started running 11,000 kilometres from Hanoi in Vietnam to Denpasar in Bali. Along the way, I conducted dozens of workshops at universities and for local businesses. I was running with a laptop and a few clothes in my backpack from one place to another. I was sharing my story and teaching people how to use mindful running to get from anxiety, stress and overwhelm caused by unresolved traumas to the state of Flow. And unlock focus, creativity and joy in all areas of their life.

Coronavirus challenged me to respond creatively to the current circumstances. Move all courses and workshops online and continue running the remaining distance locally, divided into 268 half-marathons.

The map below shows six months running journey from Hanoi to Singapore, which accounts for half of the distance (5,500 kilometres). Then I continued running 268 half-marathons (5530 kilometres) locally through a small village and jungle in Sumatra in Indonesia.

Practising mindful running and active meditation to get in the flow and keep it comfortable all day long helped me get through running unsupported 11,000 kilometres across the Southeast Asian coast. Against all odds, pain, snakes, dogs chasing me, hunger, thirst and temperature sometimes above 40 degrees Celcius, it was one of the most fulfilling, satisfying and productive times of my life. Here are a couple of minutes of this journey.
